This e-newsletter highlights important news from the Feb. 25 board meeting of the STISD Board of Directors, and includes other happenings from throughout the district.
Board recognizes both STISD middle schools for being named 2021 National Blue Ribbon School nominees
Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Education Agency announced the nomination of 26 Texas public schools as 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools.
“These 26 schools exemplify academic excellence, and I thank the teachers, staff, administrators, students, and parents for their outstanding work,” said Governor Abbott.
The program recognizes public and private schools that have high student achievement and/or highlights where exemplary progress has been made in closing achievement gaps among student subpopulations.

Board recognizes principal at Medical Professions for 46 years of service to the district
Harry Goette, principal of South Texas ISD Medical Professions in Olmito, retired from STISD at the end of February 2021 after 46 years with the district. The STISD Board of Directors and administration recognized him during the Feb. 25 board meeting for his many dedicated years of service.
Goette started with STISD as a special education teacher and worked his way up to assistant principal and then principal. He has been with our district through many changes and important milestones, including the redirection of Medical Academy and the move of the Medical Professions campus to Olmito from San Benito.

The district held a public hearing on the 2019-2020 District & Campus Texas Academic Performance Report during the Feb. 25, 2021 meeting of the STISD Board of Directors. The full report is available on the district website here.
Board approves new courses for 2021-2022
Board Approves Wage Payments to District Employees Due to Severe Weather Conditions
The STISD Board of Directors approved paying wages for all district employees for the contracted days affected by the school closures during the week of February 15-19, when the Rio Grande Valley received severe freezing temperatures and loss of electricity and water. District offices and schools were closed throughout the week due to the weather, electricity availability, and repairs to our water service.
STISD Invites Students Back to Campus for Fourth Quarter
The Fourth Quarter of the 2020-2021 School Year begins on Monday, March 22. Parents who would like to change their child's instructional setting for the last quarter of the school year (i.e. move from virtual to in-person or vice versa) need to reach out to their child's campus by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10.
