Safety + Security at STISD

Update: Fall 2022

STISD Family:

Safety and security are priorities here at South Texas ISD, and we continue to look closely at our protocols and infrastructure and how they can be strengthened.

If you have been on campus or picked up/dropped off your child in the last couple of weeks, you have most likely seen some of the changes we have made firsthand, but we want to make sure you know how seriously we take this aspect of our operations and how committed we are to the safety of our students, staff and families.

The following are a few of the ways through which we have ramped up our safety, and continue our work to do so this school year:

  • Brought on additional security guards at the campuses, and have continued with one armed guard at all times while students are on campus
  • Limiting all entry and exit points at campuses and facilities, and securing campuses with chain link fencing and gates
  • Enforcing the use of permits by staff, students, and parents/guardians to enter school property
  • Continued screening of all visitors to campuses
  • Use of clear/mesh backpacks by students, and recent implementation of metal detection devices on all campuses
  • Additional screening and security protocols as students board and depart buses in the morning
  • More frequent visits from service dogs to campuses and bus stops for random inspections
  • Upgrade and addition of security cameras on every campus (pending receipt of equipment)
  • Awareness sessions with students on the importance of keeping each other safe
  • Implementing resources and training from the Texas School Safety Center

Our Board of Directors also recently approved our updated Emergency Operations Plan, but as has been the case over the last few years, we will keep a close eye on our procedures and make adjustments as needed.

Safety and security is a team effort, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation with the new protocols we have in place to better protect our community. If at any time you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s campus.

Sincerely,
STISD Public Relations
