Javier Farias: McAllen

Javier Farias of McAllen was appointed to the STISD board of directors by Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia in October of 2013.

He is a Mission High School graduate, and he pursued his higher education at Texas A&I Kingsville.

Prior to taking oath to serve on the STISD board, Farias served on the McAllen ISD school board for 12 years. During his tenure, the McAllen ISD board was selected Region One School Board of the Year and Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Outstanding Board of the Year in 2012. Farias was also selected by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association as School Board Member of the Year for the state in 2012-2013.

He has three children – Valerie De La Torre, Victoria Farias, and Javier Antonio Farias – and four grandchildren – Nathan, Robbie, Rafael, and Raiden.

In his spare time, Farias enjoys wildlife photography and cooking.

Serving on the STISD board holds importance for Farias, as he believes in what the district has to offer. He shares that, “South Texas ISD offers their students advanced academics by giving them the tools to explore unlimited opportunities for a higher education.”

He takes pride in the fact that STISD students are graduating with the skills necessary to successfully maneuver through the academia world they will encounter, and he hopes to see the district continue to grow and provide students with advanced academics.
