STISD will open enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025.

The enrollment form must be completed online at www.stisd.net. STISD is a tuition-free, open-enrollment district, and all students residing in Cameron, Hidalgo or Willacy County are eligible to enroll. 

State and nationally-ranked STISD offers students an educational alternative through seven magnet schools throughout the Rio Grande Valley – two middle schools, four high schools, and a virtual school that consists of both middle and high school. 

The STISD High School Selection process for current STISD 8th-graders and In-District Transfer process for current STISD 6th-,7th- and 9th-graders wanting to transfer to another campus within STISD for the 2025-2026 school year are now open via Skyward. The deadline to complete these processes is 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.

This week, STISD will hold the first of two South Texas Tri-County Special Education Cooperative “Understanding Dyslexia” Parent Sessions.  Session one will be virtual and will focus on "Understanding Dyslexia: A Parent’s Guide to the Basics and How to Support Your Child."

You’re invited to join us for our STISD Parent Connection session entitled “Accessing Services for my Child with Disabilities: How Can Texas Workforce Commission-Vocational Rehabilitation Services Help?”

This event will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the South Texas ISD Teaching and Learning Center, located at 7001 E. Expressway 83 in Mercedes.

Niche recently released its 2025 Best Schools K-12 School & District Rankings, and for the 11^th year in a row, South Texas Independent School District (STISD) and its campuses rank among the best in the state and nation in this poll. 

The athletic program at STISD Rising Scholars Academy in San Benito was recently named the 2023-2024 Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League (TCSAAL) Texas Cup winner for the Middle School Premier Schools division based upon its performance last athletic season.
