South Texas Independent School District (STISD) is excited to announce the launch of its seventh campus, a stand-alone virtual school opening in the fall of 2021, following approval from the STISD board of directors during the June 28 board meeting.
STISD is excited to announce its acceptance by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as one of up to 30 school districts in the state to participate in the agency’s first cycle of the High-Impact Tutoring (HIT) Implementation Workshop Series for the 2021-2022 school year.
Using a wide variety of strategies and techniques, STISD educators together dive into the curriculum process, creating content that is both creative and impactful for student learning.
Students were recognized by the STISD Board of Directors and administrators at a pinning ceremony for their hard work and perseverance.

South Texas Independent School District (STISD) will continue serving free breakfast and lunch meals curbside to all STISD students and children 18 years old and younger from our local communities throughout the month of June.
Enrolled students (up to 21 years of age) in families that temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals for the 2020–2021 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic may be eligible to receive Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT). P-EBT benefits can be used to buy food from any retailer that accepts the Lone Star Card. The application for P-EBT will open on June 2, 2021.

Math enthusiast and South Texas ISD Science Academy senior Raul Hernandez is one of 300 students to earn the Gates Scholarship. Hernandez will pursue his studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and major in mathematics + computer science.
The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform and the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) as part of a national recognition program have re-designated South Texas ISD Preparatory Academy (Preparatory Academy) in Edinburg and South Texas ISD as a Texas School to Watch.
