Student in Frame | Crystal Wang

Meet Wang:

  • Reading enthusiast
  • Latest hobby: piano
  • Shy
  • Future software engineer

We’re on that summer time now, and for 7th-grader (incoming 8th-grader) at South Texas ISD Preparatory Academy, Crystal Wang, that means the start of her second summer participating in TexPrep UTRGV - a 7-week program designed to prepare students for success in advanced studies leading to STEM careers.

Wang is extremely shy, but doesn’t shy away from opportunities such as TexPrep, and campus extracurriculars like UIL number sense and mathematics that allow her to break out of her shell, meet new people, and work together for a common goal.

When’s she’s not at TexPrep this summer, Wang plans to catch up on some Z’s (sleep), enjoy some reading and prepare for her last year as a Preparatory Academy Spartan.

It might seem like a ways before Wang enters the workforce, but she already envisions becoming a software engineer, and possibly attending the Science Academy for the ’24-’25 school year to take advantage of all available STEM courses - computer science + programming & software development to name a few.
