Meet the 2021-2022 HOSA Area 7 Leadership Team:

Aleisha Martinez Sandoval -Area 7 President (Health Professions | Mercedes)

How many years have you been a HOSA member?

Three

Best HOSA memory:

My best HOSA memory is learning the definition of servant leadership. Coming from a third world country, I believe that I was meant to do something related to leadership, setting an example and working my way through any obstacle, so other people can see that they too have the capabilities to also be a leader and take advantage of all of the opportunities available to them.

What inspired you to run for this position?

I actually ran for this position twice. I did not get it the first time, but I wanted to be a leader that people could look up to and didn’t want to give up on my first try. So although I did not get the position the first time around, I was determined to give it another try, and sure enough I was successful.

Competing in the following event for the 2021-2022 season:

Isra Sharif - Area 7 Vice President (Health Professions | Mercedes)

How many years have you been a HOSA member?

Three

What inspired you to run for this position?

I found my inspiration through the many HOSA members at past events. I wish to serve as a guide post to each of them and be someone they can look up to- especially right now as many new incoming HOSA members are excited and eager to learn as much as they can through this student organization which prepares them for their future careers in medicine and more.

Best HOSA memory:

My best HOSA memory is attending the Fall Leadership Conference where I was able to meet new people and build new lasting relationships. Leading is more about getting to know the individual than it is the group and I had a lot of fun getting to know each person on a one-to-one basis through this leadership position.

Competing in the following event for the 2021-2022 season:

Cultural Disparities and Diversities (Individual)

Overall goal as vice- president:

My goal as vice-president is to not stop my journey in leading others here and in my community and using these skills in my future.

Uzair Bilal- Area 7 Secretary (Health Professions | Mercedes)

How many years have you been a HOSA member?

Three

Best HOSA memory:

My best HOSA memory is attending the Leadership Development Institute, where we learned how to function as a group of leaders and perform our roles.

What are your feelings on serving in this role?

This position is such an honor because we are serving future healthcare professionals. It’s an organization that has many different aspects to it. I like to break it down into three different aspects: leadership, community service and a competitive aspect with all sharing the same mission: to develop more people into the healthcare field.

Competing in the following event for the 2021-2022 season:

Medical Terminology (individual event)

What inspired you to run for this position?

I have a huge drive to serve the HOSA community as Area Secretary, knowing the social impact that it makes on an individual. I previously met a ton of my friends just from being a member of this organization, and I in turn want to give the same opportunity and more to prospective members because of the many friendships acquired through my years in HOSA.

Cecily Cisneros - Area 7 Historian (Medical Professions | Olmito)

Best HOSA memory:

My best HOSA memory is attending Fall Leadership Conference as we led groups of students from throughout Area 7 in various activities and were able to get members excited for this new year of competition.

What are your feelings on serving in this role?

It’s really cool that we get to represent Area 7 as a district with our sister school: South Texas ISD Health Professions, especially being that both schools focus on health and medial professions.

Competing in the following event for the 2021-2022 season:

Certification skills (Individual) and Community Emergency Preparedness (team event)

What inspired you to run for historian?

My brother’s best friend and former Medical Professions alum, who formally served as a state HOSA historian inspired me to run for this position. Seeing her excitement inspired me to one day serve in that capacity, and here I am.

Alejandro Partida - Area 7 Reporter (Medical Professions | Olmito)

Best HOSA memory:

My best HOSA memory is attending the Leadership Development Institute in San Antonio and meeting other Area officers within the state and making those connections.

Main goal as HOSA Area Reporter:

My goal as area reporter is increasing HOSA engagement between existing members and  attracting new members and showing them that HOSA is more than just competitions, it prepares you for life and more.

Competing in the following event for the 2021-2022 season:

Community Awareness (individual)

What inspired you to run for Reporter?

My inspiration to run for the Area 7 reporter position stemmed from my interest in social media and being active in campus activities and clubs, as it allows me to put both things I enjoy doing together. Through this position I wish to increase engagement between existing members and attract new members through good story telling and the use of social media.
