STISD high schools claim top spots in state and nation in U.S. News 2022 Best High Schools Ranking

U.S. News & World Report recently published its 2022 Best U.S. High Schools Ranking, and all four South Texas Independent School District (STISD) high schools again rank among the best in the state and nation.

In the state rankings, South Texas ISD Science Academy (Science Academy) in Mercedes ranked 37th, South Texas ISD Health Professions (now Health Professions, and previously South Texas High School for Health Professions, or Med High) in Mercedes ranked 70th, South Texas ISD Medical Professions (now Medical Professions, and previously South Texas Academy for Medical Professions, or Medical Academy) in Olmito ranked 75th, and South Texas ISD World Scholars (now World Scholars, and previously South Texas Business, Education & Technology Academy) in Edinburg ranked 91st.  Out of nearly 18,000 public high schools ranked across the nation, Science Academy ranked 222nd, Health Professions ranked 433rd, Medical Professions ranked 466th, and World Scholars ranked 635th.

According to U.S. News, the six ranking indicators that determined each school’s rank were the same as those used in the three prior years; however, U.S. News adjusted its calculation of these measures to account for the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on schools in the 2019-2020 school year. The factors include: College Readiness (30% of the ranking); College Curriculum Breadth (10%); State Assessment Proficiency (20%); State Assessment Performance (20%); Underserved Student Performance (10%); and Graduation Rate (10%).
