South Texas Independent School District offers Career and Technical Education programs in Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources; Architecture & Construction; Arts, A/V Technology & Communications; Business, Marketing & Finance; Engineering; Health Science; Hospitality & Tourism; Human Services; Information Technology; Law & Public Service; Manufacturing; and Transportation, Distribution & Logistics. Admission to these programs is based on student interest, aptitude, age appropriateness and class space availability.

STAAR and End-of-Course (EOC) scores are now available online. Families can access their child's results through the Texas Assessment Family Portal at TexasAssessment.gov using their student's Unique Access Code or TSDS/PEIMS ID, date of birth, and legal first name.

We are pleased to share South Texas ISD will resume normal operations tomorrow, Wednesday, June 17, following our regular summer schedule.

Please note that summer camps, state assessments, and other on-campus activities will not resume this week. Any state assessments that were postponed will be rescheduled for a later date; additional information is forthcoming.

Due to the current weather conditions and out of an abundance of caution, we will be closing today's summer camps effective immediately.  

Students who are currently on campus may be picked up by their parents/guardians and will be transported home via their bus transportation. Staff will continue to monitor weather conditions closely to ensure students arrive home safely.

After eight years leading South Texas Independent School District (STISD) and a career spanning over 30 years in education, Superintendent Dr. Marco Antonio Lara, Jr. has announced his retirement, effective May 31.

Next week marks the final week of the 2025–2026 school year. Semester 2 exams will take place Monday, May 18, through Thursday, May 21.

Please note that students absent during exams May 18–21 will make up missed exams the morning of Friday, May 22.

Additionally, the district will have an early release on Friday, May 22, with all students dismissed at 1:30 p.m.

We’re excited to keep the momentum going with fresh updates, useful resources, and new opportunities to help every student stay on track toward college, career, and beyond.

The South Texas Independent School District (STISD) Board of Trustees, at its April 7 meeting, named Dr. Sandra Garza Ochoa, from Edcouch Elsa ISD, as finalist for superintendent. By law, the Board must now wait 21 days before voting to hire Ochoa to be the new superintendent for South Texas ISD. Ochoa is slated to be the successor to superintendent Dr. Marco Antonio Lara, Jr., who is retiring on May 31 of this year.

STISD families are invited to attend “Growing Together,” a parent conference on autism taking place April 25, 2026, in Mercedes. The event will offer practical strategies, community resources, and opportunities to connect with other families and support organizations.

Student registration is required each year for all new and returning students. This year’s process will be completed electronically through Skyward, our student information system. The packets are now available, and parents are asked to complete those at their earliest convenience.
