STISD Schools Earn A's in 2019 Children at Risk Rankings

This is the image for the news article titled STISD Schools Earn A's in 2019 Children at Risk RankingsAccording to the most recent Children at Risk Rankings, all six South Texas Independent School District (STISD) schools continue to educate students at an A-level, as evidenced by scores on student achievement on standardized tests, student growth year-to-year, support of economically disadvantaged students, and preparation of students for college and career.

Children at Risk is a Texas-based organization that has graded and ranked schools throughout the state for 12 years. All six STISD schools received As in the organization’s 2019 rankings.

In the middle school category, South Texas ISD Rising Scholars Academy in San Benito ranked 13th in the state, and South Texas ISD Preparatory Academy in Edinburg ranked 28th. Both campuses received A+ ratings. Within the Rio Grande Valley, the two campuses filled two of the top three spots in the middle school category.

In the high school category, South Texas ISD Science Academy in Mercedes ranked 79th and received an A, South Texas ISD World Scholars in Edinburg ranked 96th and received an A, South Texas ISD Medical Professions in Olmito ranked 113th and received an A, and South Texas ISD Health Professions ranked 178th and received an A-. Within the Rio Grande Valley, two of the STISD high schools took spots within the top 10 in the category.

The organization looks at school performance through a variety of different lenses. Elementary and middle schools are ranked across three main areas: student achievement, achievement + poverty, and student growth. High school rankings take into account the same three areas as the elementary and middle school division, but also factor in performance in college readiness.
