Board members Douglas Buchanan and Abiel Cantu take oath of officeAt the Nov. 27 board meeting, all three county judges - Honorable Eddie Treviño, Jr., of Cameron County; Honorable Aurelio “Keter” Guerra of Willacy County; and Honorable Ramon Garcia of Hidalgo County - and State Board of Education member Ruben Cortez, administered oaths of office to the newly-elected, appointed, re-appointed and re-elected directors.

In Cameron County, long-time board member Robert J. Lerma of Brownsville won the election for Cameron County Commissioners Precinct 1. Eduardo "Larry" Cantu ran unopposed in the election for Cameron County Commissioners Precinct 3. Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., appointed Eduardo Roberto Rodriguez and Manuel Ricardo Villarreal, DDS, of Brownsville, to the at-large county positions.

In Hidalgo County, Martin Castillo, D.C., won the election for Hidalgo County Commissioners Precinct 4. Margarita Garcia ran unopposed in the election for Hidalgo County Commissioners Precinct 2. Judge Ramon Garcia appointed Yolanda Chapa, Javier Farias, Richard Fleming, MD, and Jaime Solis for four-year terms in the at-large county positions.

In Willacy County, board members Abiel J. Cantu and Douglas E. Buchanan both ran unopposed for the elections of Willacy County Commissioners Precincts 1 and 4, respectively.

There was also reorganization of the board of directors, with the board members electing Douglas Buchanan of Raymondville as board president, Yolanda Cuellar of Progreso Lakes as vice president, and Henry LeVrier of Brownsville as secretary.
