This is the image for the news article titled STISD Welcomes Back Faculty & Staff for 2018-2019 School YearSouth Texas ISD will officially welcome back all district employees through a day of professional development at the district’s annual in-service event, to be held on Monday, Aug. 13, at the South Texas Academy for Medical Professions (Medical Academy) campus, located at 10650 North Expressway 77/83 in Olmito.

The in-service will officially mark the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. This year’s district in-service theme is “Power Forward & Take Charge,” which promotes channeling your energy into your passions and taking charge of your success.

The event will start at 8:00 a.m. with breakfast in the cafeteria. Immediately after breakfast, all employees will divide up for mini sessions and trainings.

Mini Conference I: 8:45 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
Mini Conference II: 9:50 a.m. - 10:50 a.m. 
Mini Conference III: 10:55 a.m. - 11:55 a.m. 

Please note that, depending upon campus or department of assignment, there may be mandatory sessions to attend. The schedule will show which sessions are mandatory and for whom.

Employees will break for lunch at 12:00 p.m.  After lunch, teachers will work on horizontal alignment of curriculum from 1:15-2:45 p.m. and then vertical alignment from 3:00-4:30 p.m.

All ELOs and Scope & Sequences are expected to be updated within the first semester of the 2018-2019 school year. Groups will start this work on Monday, will need to determine how best to ensure these updates occur within the first semester. 

Below are a few key points related to the work to occur during the horizontal and vertical alignment of curriculum: 

- The documents from last year are already on Microsoft Teams, so you will be asked to reference those files and house any updates to them on Teams so that they are searchable and accessible by all. 

- You can certainly bring and use your own device, if you choose. Teams is even accessible through a smart phone app. We will also have some devices on hand at Medical Academy that day, just in case they are needed.

- Everyone will be meeting in the Cafeteria at the beginning of each session to break up into the appropriate groups, and you can then determine if you want to move to separate areas within that space or to another classroom altogether to work on updates. 

- We will have signs set up for the different subject areas (i.e. English, Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.) throughout the cafeteria to assist with facilitating the initial gathering of the group. Please look out for your sign!

- The campus Instructional Technology Specialists will be available to assist with ensuring you are able to log on to Teams, join your team and save updates.

Driving south from Harlingen: Exit Rancho Viejo, take the turnaround and the campus will be on the right.
