South Texas Preparatory Academy (STPA) and its Parent-Student-Teacher-Organization (PSTO) held the second annual Spartan Olympics Day on Nov. 23.

This annual event was initiated last year as a way to help raise awareness of health and wellness for all. Attendees participate in fun physical activities throughout the day, encouraging them to take control of their wellbeing through making healthy choices and lifestyle adjustments.

This year’s activities included a 5K walk/run; Zumba and yoga activities; the Spartan Olympics Games competition and numerous booths.

Administrators, faculty and staff members, students and families also come together during the event for the purpose of giving back to the community and helping a local organization. This year, the Rio Grande Valley-based ACES3 organization will benefit from the funds raised. ACES3 is a non-profit organization that serves as a valuable resource to families with children who have Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Approximately $7,000 was raised from the 5K walk/run this year.  Half of the sponsorship from the 5K walk/run was committed to ACES3, so the organization will be receiving about $3,500.

The check presentation will take place after students return from the holiday break.
