Welding Technology

Welding Technology (offered at The Science Academy of South Texas in Mercedes)

Nothing sparks the imagination like a welding torch. The pulse of welding beats strongly in the 21st century according to the American Welding Society. Welding is used to construct and repair parts of ships, automobiles, spacecraft, and thousands of other manufactured products. It is also used to join beams when constructing buildings, bridges, and other structures.

The STISD Welding Technology program will teach you the fundamentals of welding, the most common way of permanently joining metal parts, and the processes used to fabricate metal. You will receive training in gas, arc, fluxcore, and MIG and TIG welding. Along with blueprint reading and welding symbols, you will also learn how to use a grinder, drill, plasma arc cutter, burning torch, arc welding machines, and more.

Our program starts with safety procedures and hands-on welding classes. It’s an exciting training program that will prepare you to jump-start your welding career. You’ll be trained on structural welding, fluxcore welding, pipe welding along with instruction focused on career and welding certification preparation.

Professional welders work almost everywhere – automotive, aerospace & aviation industries; bridges & bikes; shipyards, shops & skyscrapers – wherever metal needs adhering, a welder is needed. This training program teaches you skills that can be used worldwide, so almost anywhere you want to go, your welding training can take you there.
