Frequently Asked Questions

When does enrollment begin?
Enrollment for the 2018-19 school year will begin on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Students who enroll during this enrollment session will begin school the following school year (in the fall of 2018).

Can I enroll early?
You can create your family profile early, but you will not be able to request a seat for the 2018-2019 school year until 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13
Creating your family profile will help you cut down on the amount of information that has to be entered before requesting a seat when enrollment opens up, but please note that starting the application early does not guarantee you a spot at your desired campus.

How do I enroll?
Visit the SchoolMint Online Enrollment System page or go to http://www.stisd.net and click on the "Create Your Family Profile. Start the Process" button. Create your family profile and student profile. At 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, reaccess your SchoolMint account at the same URL to complete an application for the schools or schools of your choice. Complete and submit an application for each child you are enrolling.

Do I have to drive to my selected campus in January to pre-enroll?
No. Since the enrollment form is online, at www.stisd.net, you can complete it at home. If you do not have a computer or Internet access at home or elsewhere, refer to the Enrollment section of our website for a list of STISD facilities we will have open for public computer use during Enrollment.

Will I be required to turn in all paperwork or required records to my selected campus at the time of enrollment in January?
No. You will not need to turn in your required paperwork and records until after you have received an offer from your selected campus and have accepted it. At that time you will be able to begin the registration through the SchoolMint Online Enrollment System.

I don't have the Internet. Can you mail me a form?
Unfortunately, we no longer use paper. If you do not have the Internet at home, our four STISD libraries will be open for public computer use. Visit the Enrollment section for contact information and addresses for these facilities.

Is the same enrollment form/application used for all the schools?
Yes. The form, however, will ask you to select the grade and school (or schools) you wish to attend. This information will be selected within Choose Preferred Schools section in the application for each child. You can select more than one school within an application, so you will not need to complete more than one application if you wish to request a seat at multiple schools.

How will I know if I successfully reserved a seat for the upcoming school year at my desired campus?
You must receive an offer from the campus of your choice to know that you have a seat reserved. When completing the application on Saturday, Jan. 13, you will be able to request a seat at your desired campus (or campuses). Once your application has been submitted, the campus will be able to see your request. The campus will make offers to applications in the order in which they were received. Offers will be made within three business days of submission of the application. Please note that, even after you successfully receive and accept an offer, your seat can still be lost, if you do not complete the remaining steps in the enrollment process (Advisement, New Scholar Academy, registration).

What if I am enrolling two students at different campuses?
If you are enrolling two different students at two different campuses, you can use the same family profile, but you will need to create two different student profiles (and applications) - one for each child. You will need to select the desired school or schools for each child within each application and submit the application in order to request a seat.

What information do I need to enroll?
Within the family profile, student profile and application, you will only need basic information, such as address, phone numbers, parent/guardian and basic education information, including grade level and school to which you are applying. You will also need a valid e-mail address or mobile phone number. If you do not have an e-mail address, you can create a free account at www.gmail.com.

You will be asked to complete Registration forms through SchoolMint once you have accepted an offer from a campus. This will require submission of more detailed information.

What are the requirements to enroll?
There are only three requirements. You must: 1) live in Cameron, Hidalgo or Willacy County; 2) attend Advisement in the spring and New Scholar Academy in the summer; and 3) complete the Registration packet through SchoolMint and turn in any other required information to the campus.

Are there any other requirements?
You just need to pass the 6th or 7th grade to attend Rising Scholars, the 6th grade to attend STPA (campus not enrolling 8th-graders for 2018-19), and pass the 8th or 9th grade to attend an STISD high school.

When does enrollment end?
Enrollment closes when a school reaches its capacity. STISD enrollment operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and offers are made on applications in the order in which they are received. It can be a matter of hours, or even minutes, for the campus to receive the number of applications it needs to fill available spots, it is best to enroll (request a seat reservation) as early as possible after the start time.

How do I know if enrollment is still open?
Even after the campus has extended offers to fill its available seats, you may still be able to request a seat at a particular campus. If the system allows you to select the grade and school you want, you may have an opportunity for a seat, or you could be added to a waitlist for further consideration, should offers fall through. You can always check with individual campuses to see if they are still accepting applications as well.

How do I know if I've been accepted?
You must receive an offer from the campus of your choice to know that you have a seat reserved. When completing the application on Saturday, Jan. 13, you will be able to request a seat at your desired campus (or campuses). Once your application has been submitted, the campus will be able to see your request. The campus will make offers to applications in the order in which they were received. Offers will be made within three business days of submission of the application. Please note that, even after you successfully receive and accept an offer, your seat can still be lost, if you do not complete the remaining steps in the enrollment process (Advisement, New Scholar Academy, registration).

What happens after I submit my enrollment application?
Once you submit your application with a seat request (or seat requests), the campus will be able to see your application in the system. Campuses will make offers to applications in the order in which they were received. Offers will be made within three business days of submission of the application. Once an offer is made to you, you will then need to log back in to SchoolMint to accept the offer and begin the Registration packet.

Please note that, even after you successfully receive and accept an offer, your seat can still be lost, if you do not complete the remaining steps in the enrollment process (Advisement, New Scholar Academy, registration).

What if I have problems submitting the form (technical problems)?
Please call our Technology Department at 956-514-0752 if you experience technical difficulties. Be sure to call and be sure to hold on the line (if necessary).

I'm an 8th grader right now. Can I still enroll at one of the junior highs?
Unfortunately, only current 6th and 7th graders can enroll within STISD middle schools. For the 2018-19 school year, STPA will only accept current 6th graders. Rising Scholars will accept current 6th and 7th graders. We wish you would have enrolled with us when you were still in the 7th grade! However, you can enroll at an STISD high school and begin the 9th grade with us.

I'm a 10th grader right now. Can I still enroll at the high school?
Unfortunately, only current 8th and 9th graders can enroll at the high school. We wish you would have enrolled with us when you were still in the 9th grade! Though you are no longer eligible to enroll, you can still receive a quality education at your home high school if you commit to taking Pre-AP and AP classes. Good luck.

Can I apply to more than one school?
You can request a seat at more than one STISD campus within your application, and you can receive seat offers from more than one STISD campus. However, you can only accept one offer, and you must do so within two weeks of receiving the offer; otherwise, your offer will be rescinded by the campus. Accepting an offer from one campus will withdraw/decline your offers from all other campuses, so you want to be sure that you make the choice carefully.

What if I'm not sure which school I want to go to?
You will need to do a little homework to make up your mind. Go to http://www.stisd.net/about_us/schools and click on the different campus names to learn more about the schools. Then go to http://www.stisd.net/students/current_students/academics and click on the campus names to see the courses you will need to take at each school.

Are there any settings I need to have on my computer to enroll online?
It is highly recommended that you upgrade to the most recent version of Internet Explorer or Firefox to achieve the best results. The enrollment application works best with IE 7 or above and Firefox 19 or above.

What if I do not have information for my mother or father? Can I still enroll?
Absolutely. You are only required to enter one parent or guardian.

Why do I not see the button for the enrollment form?
You can visit the SchoolMint Online Enrollment System website directly. For additional information regarding the schedule for enrollment, visit http://www.stisd.net/students/future_students/enrollment.

Is there a waiting list if the grade level I am interested in is already full?
Within the new enrollment system, there will be waitlists available. You will be able to request a seat from more than one campus within your application, and will receive offers or waitlist assignments based upon where your application falls within the requests. You can only accept one offer, however, so you will need to decide whether to wait for a seat to open up for your desired campus, if waitlisted, or to accept an offer from one of the other campuses, if available.

When I call the Technology Department, my call keeps getting disconnected or I cannot get through. Who else can help me with questions?
If you are having problems enrolling and are unable to reach the Technology Department, you can call your selected campus and explain the situation. Someone at the campus will be able to assist you with reaching the Technology team or other appropriate office or help you resolve your issue. For STISD campus contact information, visit http://www.stisd.net/students/future_students/enrollment and click on Contact Us.

Can I change my session choice for Advisement or New Scholar Academy later if I need to?
Yes. You will select your Advisement and New Scholar Academy session preferences within your Registration packet in SchoolMint, and you will be able to log back in and change those sessions, if space exists within the other sessions.

I applied and did not receive any information confirming my enrollment. Is there someone I can talk to who can confirm my enrollment?
Yes. If you did not receive any information confirming your enrollment form submission, you can reach out to your campus of interest. For contact information, visit http://www.stisd.net/about_us/contact_us.
